Howard Brubaker (Lemmon) is married to Phyllis (Sally Kellerman), WHO does not love him. Catherine (Deneuve) is that the gorgeous married woman of an equally uncaring husband, Howard's philandering boss ted Gunther (Peter Lawford).
At a party hosted by ted, he urges Howard to choose up an out there girl at the party and income to point out him how. Howard reluctantly tries it on Catherine, WHO instantly accepts.
The two realize their marriages are loveless as they discover additional concerning one another that night and choose to run away along. however Howard does not realise Catherine is his boss's wife till he's near to board the plane along with her to Paris.
